Chicago, online: Analytic Love, Self-Compassion, and The Growth of Internal Secure Attachment

Drawing on the work of Ferenczi and Clara Thompson, the author reviews their and his own reflections on analytic love. While previously framing his understanding of analytic love around the qualities of the analyst that foster healing and growth, Shaw will describe his current focus on how the analyst helps patients find and use their innate potential for self-compassion. In this model, the patient’s self-compassion is a crucial therapeutic agent and is the vehicle for the development of newly established internal secure attachment.
